On 26 September 1916 the battalion took part in The Battle of Thiepval and successfully took all of its objectives, bringing praise from all quarters on the tenacious manner in which they had taken and held, with a large number of prisoners taken in the process. This success came at a high cost with 91 men killed on the day and others dying of their wounds later.
