The marriage of Charles Lennon and Kate Turner was registered in Worksop, Notts in 1893 but probably took place at Hardwick, Clumber, Notts as her father was the farm bailiff there. The couple had a short time together as Charles died after only 7 years of marriage. He had been a coachman and was 36 years of age on his death. However, they did have children, Sydney in 1893 at Hardwick, Nora Kate 1895, Victoria 1897 at Overston Park Northants, John Turner Lennon 1899 at Kensington, William Cook Lennon 1901 at Hardwick. His middle name of Cook was taken after his maternal grandmother. Kate Lennon remarried in 1909 to Harry Sainsbury and in 1911 was living with her widower father, John Lennon and William Cook Lennon. It was William Cook Lennon, who, at the young age of 17, joined the newly formed Royal Air Force. He probably would have been aware of the birth of his 3 step siblings, Phyillis Elsie Sainsbury 1910, Freda 1912 and Arthur Sainsbury in 1913

The deceased, who was 17 ½ years of age, was a promising youth, and before enlisting was engaged at Brooke’s garage, Worksop. He had only been in camp twelve days before he died, the cause of death being pneumonia following upon influenza. His mother was with the poor lad in his last illness. Owing to a number of deaths, the interment did not take place until the 12th, and of a full military character. The deceased was a former member of the Clumber choir, and as a boy attended Hardwick Scholl.
