Family History

William Rawson (junior) was born in 1894 at Selston and was the son of William Rawson (senior) an inn keeper and Ellen Rawson née Webster of Jacksdale. His father William Rawson (senior) was born in 1865 at Selston and his mother Ellen Webster was born in 1868 at Sutton, they were married in 1889 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration District. They had the following children all of whom were born at Selston, William b1894, Arthur b1896, Helen b1900 and Maud b1902. In the 1911 census the family are living at Jacksdale village and are shown as William 46 yrs an inn keeper, he is living with his wife Ellen 43 yrs and their children William 17 yrs a labourer, Arthur 15 yrs a scholar, Helen 11 yrs a scholar and Maud 9 yrs a scholar.

Military History

Sergeant William Rawson enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Jacksdale, he served with the 17th battalion Sherwood Foresters. He was killed in action on 3rd September 1916 and is buried at Ancre British Cemetery, Beaumont Hamel, France grave reference VI.F.23.
