Family History

Ernest Wyckham Jervis was born in St Helens, Lancashire in 1882, the son of John and Gertrude Jervis. He was their second child, his siblings being Albert V in 1879, John S 1880, Harold S 1884, Hilda G 1886, Cyril P 1888. In 1881, their father was an ironmonger employing 9 workers at St Helens. 10 years later the family were resident at 34 Hampton Road, Southport, Lancs. Another move was made by 1901, living at 7 Stanley Crescent, Prescot, Lancashire. Ernest was now recorded as working as an ironmonger, (possibly working for his father). 1907 saw Ernest marrying Henrietta (Ellen) Pitchford in Everton, Liverpool on the 22nd Dec, and 4 years later, the couple were living at 5 Baden Terrace, Orleton Lane, Wellington, Salop (Shropshire), with Ernest working as a stand fitter, cabinet maker for a school furniture works. Between 1911 and 1914, the couple moved to Worksop where they had a child registered there, in 1914, named George H E Jervis.

Military History

Ernest Jervis enlisted at Worksop, joining his birth county regiment. He fought on the Western Front, was killed in action and commemorated on the London Cemetery Extension Longueval, France, leaving a widow and one 2 year old child.
