Family History

Ernest Catlin was born in 1886 at Dry Doddington, Lincolnshire. He married Selina Hardstaff (born 4th April 1885) in 1908 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district, they lived at Oxton and had the following children, Ernest Henry born 14th August 1909, Joseph born 28th May 1911, Horace born 7th May 1913 and Cyril born 13th February 1915. In the 1911 census they lived at Cotgrave Place Cotgrave Nottinghamshire and were shown as Ernest Catlin 24 yrs a forman waggoner on a farm, he is living with his wife Selina 25 yrs and their son Ernest Henry 1 year of age. Following Ernest death his widow Selina was awarded a pension of 28 shillings and 9 pence commencing on 11th February 1918.

Military History

Lance Corporal Ernest Catlin enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Southwell, he served with the 12th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He landed in France on 29th August 1915. He died of wounds on 5th August 1917 at the King George Hospital in London, his body was returned to his family and buried at St Peters and St Pauls Church, Oxton.
