Arthur Keeling

Arthur Keeling was born in 1894 at Selston and was the son of Benjamin a coal miner hewer and Emily Rebecca Keeling née Scothern of Victoria Road, Selston. His father Benjamin was born in 1870 at Selston and his mothere Emily Rebecca Scothern was born in 1871 also at Selston. They were married on 1st June 1890; their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district. They went on to have 11 children, sadly 3 died in infancy or early childhood. Their children were Lily b1892, Arthur b1894, Elsie May b1896, Doris b1900, Ida b1904, Nellie b1907, Grace b1908 and Ben Keeling b1910; all were born in Selston. In the 1911 census the family lived on Victoria Road Selston and were shown as Benjamin 41 yrs a coal miner hewer, who was living with his wife Emily Rebecca 40 yrs and their children, Lily 19 yrs working at home, Arthur 17 yrs a coal miner loader, Elsie Mary 15 yrs working at home, Ida 7 yrs a scholar, Nellie 4 yrs Grace 3 yrs and Ben 1 year of age . Arthur Keeling married Bertha Hodgkinson (b. 12 February 1896 d. 1981 J/F/M Basford) in 1918, their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district. They lived at Brookside House, Bagthorpe.
