Charles was born in 1895 in Beeston and was the son of Henry a blacksmith and Elizabeth Ann Maitland Keeling née Luck , 6 St.Paul's Terrace, Radford Road, Hyson Green, Nottingham.His father Henry was born in 1860 in Nottingham and his mother Elizabeth Ann Maitland Luck was born in 1865 in Ranskill, Nottinghamshire, they were married in 1882, their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham Registration district, they went on to have 4 children , however sadly one died in infancy prior to 1911. Their surviving children were , Eleanor Keeling b 1883 Nottingham, Ethel Luck Keeling b1888 Bobbersmill and Charles Henry b1895 in Beeston. In the 1901 census the family are living at 25 High Road, Beeston , Henry is a blacksmith. In 1907 his sister Eleanor Keeling married a man called Ruben Lee, they had 4 children , (2 from her husband previous marriage) In the 1911 census the family are living at 52 Exeter Road, Sherwood Rise and are shown as Henry 51 year head of the family a blacksmith,he is living with his wife Elizabeth Ann Maitland , and their 2 children , Ethel Luck 23 yrs address maker and Charles Henry 16 yrs a clerk in a building company.
Second Lieutenant Charles Henry Keeling, was a driver when he enlisted into the Royal Field Artillery ,he was gazetted to Second Lieutenant with effect from 1st March 1918 and served with “A” Battery, 15th Brigade Royal Field Artillery, died of pneumonia on 28th October 1918. He is buried in Etaples Military Cemetery.
