Jesse Charlesworth was born in 1882 at Newark and was the son of Louisa Charlesworth his brother Thomas Charlesworth was born in 1880 also in Newark, his mother Louisa married Thomas Plummer in 1886 at Newark they lived at Bowbridge Road, Newark. Jesse married his wife Mary Ann Brown in 1906 at Grantham, they went on to have a daughter Phyllis born 1908 at Grantham they lived at 31 Springfield Road, Grantham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 30 Staton Street, Grantham and are shown as Jessie Charlesworth 29 yrs an upholsterer, he is living with his Mary 30 yrs and their daughter Phyllis 3 yrs.
Private Jesse Charlesworth enlisted on 29th April 1918 at Grantham he initially served with the Lincolnshire Regiment and went out to France on 15th September 1918. He was transferred to the 15th battalion Lancashire Fusiliers. He was badly wounded on the 8th November 1918 and returned to England and died at Highfields Military Hospital, Liverpool where he died of his wounds on 15th November 1918. He is buried at Grantham Cemetery
Article published 27th November 1918 in the Newark Advertiser :- Resided with wife Mrs M.A. Charlesworth and child at 31 Springfield Road, Grantham. Son of Mr & Mrs Charlesworth, 14a Springfield Road. Educated at the Mount School, Newark and served his apprenticeship as an upholsterer with Mr George H. Neale, Atlas House, Westgate, Grantham with whom he served 17 years. Joined the army on April 29th and after training with the Lincolnshire Regiment at Cork, he proceeded on September 15th to France, where he was transferred to the Lancashire Fusiliers. During the severe fighting on Nov. 8th he was badly wounded in the left leg and removed to Highfeld Military Hospital, Liverpool, where he died.
