Cecil Charlesworth was the son of Charles [Josiah] and Eliza Charlesworth. Their children included: Cecil Charlesworth (b.1884), Emily (b.1887), Robert Charlesworth (b.1889), Sarah Jane (b.1895), William Albert (b.1897/d.1906), George Henry (b.1901) and Charles (b.1904). Charles also had a son, Charles Josiah (b.1873/d.1896), from a previous relationship. The various family homes identified were: 782 Woodborough Road, Nottingham [C.1891]; 7 Westminster Street, St Ann’s [C.1901]; 95 Carlton Hill, Carlton, Notts.[C.1911]. Charles Josiah Charlesworth, who was a bricklayer’s labourer in 1891, died at Nottingham, aged 51, in 1904. Eliza Charlesworth died in the Basford registration district, aged 80 in 1943. In 1911 Cecil Charlesworth married Hilda Clarice Holt at Nottingham. They had one child, Mabel (b. 10 December 1913). Hilda Clarice Charlesworth lived at 35 Garfield Road, Radford [n.e.p.10.3.1919] & CWGC]. She subsequently married Arthur H. Woodhouse at Nottingham in 1925.
Initially served with the 5th Bn. Sherwood Foresters; transferred to 21st Company Lanbour Corps. Cecil died from pneumonia at the 46th Casualty Clearing Station, France, on 4 March 1919 during the influenza pandemic. He was buried in the Pont-Remy British Cemetery, Somme, France (grave ref. I. B. 18). CWGC - History of Pont-Remy British Cemetery (extract): 'The 38th and 4th Casualty Clearing Stations were posted to Pont-Remy in March and April 1918, the 41st Stationary Hospital from April 1918 to the following November, and the 46th Casualty Clearing Station from December 1918 to April 1919. The Cemetery was made by these medical units and was used from May 1918 to May 1919.'
Registers of Soldiers' Effects: his widow, Hilda, was his legatee.
