Alfred Edward Guyatt was born in 1880 in Allbrook Hampshire and was the son of William a plasterer and Sarah Guyatt née Dear of Hampshire His father William was born in 1838 in Amesbury Wiltshire and his mother Sarah Dear was born in 1843 in Winterslow Wiltshire, they were married on 1st December 1867 in Winterslow, Wiltshire and went on to have the following children all born in Allbrook, Hampshire, James 1876, Flora b1878, Alfred b1880, Sidney b1882, Frank b1884 and Bessie b1886. Alfred Edward married Beatrice Marston on 19th December 1903 at the Registry Office in Bingham, they went on to have 2 children, Beatrice Anne b1904 and Edna b1908 and lived at Cropwell Road Radcliffe on Trent Nottinghamshire. In the 1911 censes he and his family are living at Albert Street, Cropwell Road, Radcliffe on Trent and are shown as Albert Edward Guyatt 31 yrs a plasterer he is living with his wife Beatrice 25 yrs and their children Beatrice Ann 6 yrs and Edna 2 yrs Following his death his widow now living at Rose Cottage, Water Lane, Radcliffe on Trent received a letter dated 6th November 1917 from the ministry of pensions indicating they she would receive a pension of 22 shillings and 6 pence a week in respect of her and her two children with effect from 5th November 1917. Beatrice Guyatt later lived at 20 Bingham Road Sherwood Nottingham.
Private Alfred Edward Guyatt, enlisted at York giving his residence as Nottingham, he gave his age as 36 yrs and 85 days and his address as 1 Querneby Road, Mapperley, Nottingham, his next of kin was his wife Beatrice he was posted to the West Yorkshire Regiment . On 10th January 1917 he embarked from Folkstone landing the following day in France, he was promoted to Lance Corporal on 5th July 1916. He was serving with the 14th Battalion Durham Light Infantry when he was killed in action on 21st April 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial.
