Albert Gilbourne was born in 1886 at Brinsley the son of the late Jacob a coal miner and Edna Gilbourne née Adams of 4 Bentinck Street, Annesley Woodhouse, Jacob was born in 1849 at Eastwood, he died in 1912 aged 63, Edna Adams was born in 1852 at Willoughby, Leicestershire, married in 1872 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 11 children Albert married Beatrice Annie Stewart (born 10th September 1889) their marriage in 1908 was recorded in the Basford registration district, they lived at 18 Sherwood Street Annesley Woodhouse Nottinghamshire and later 8 Reform Street, Annesley Woodhouse. In 1911 he and his wife were living at 18 Sherwood Street, Annesley Woodhouse, he is 25 yrs and a coal miner. Commencing 25th June 1917 his widow Beatrice was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week.
Rifleman Albert Gilbourne enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Annesley Woodhouse, he initially served with the service number 11194 in King's Royal Rifle Corps, he was killed in action on 23rd October 1916 whilst serving with the Rifle Brigade. Haing no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
