Family History

He was the son of William and Hannah Swift and the brother of Emily, Mary Ann, Lizzie, Hannah, Sarah and Betsy Swift. In 1911 they lived at 40 Ellis Street East Kirkby. Robert Henry married Eliza Maud Sims (born 20th July 1893) in 1912 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they lived at 52 Sherwood Street, Annesley Woodhouse. Following his death his widow Eliza was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week which commenced on 21st April 1919.

Military History

Private Robert Henry Swift, enlisted at Mansfield (whilst residing at Kirkby in Ashfield) he served with the 1/5th Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 28th September 1918. He is commemorated on the Vis-en-Artois Memorial
