Family History

Alfred Drury (junior) was born in 1882 at Skegby and was the son of Alfred Drury (senior) and Clara Drury née Hind. His father was born in 1858 at Great Grinden, Huntingdon, his mother Clara Hind was born in 1861 at Warsop, they were married in 1881 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield registration district, they had a further child a daughter Clara Annie born 1883 at Skegby, his mother Clara died in 1883 she was 22 yrs of age. His father went on to marry Emma Hind born 1852 at Sutton in Ashfield in 1891 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield registration district. In the 1911 census his father is living at 8 Carr Lane, Warsop, he is shown as being 53 yrs and a carter, he is living with his wife Emma Drury 59 yrs and their children, George William Hind 36 yrs a coal miner onsetter, and his married son William Hind 26 yrs , he is living with his wife Caroline Hind 25 yrs and their son William Hind 6 months of age In the same 1911 census Alfred Drury (junior) has left his home and he was lodging with an aunt Annie Hinchcliff at 1 Hindes Yard Warsop Nottinghamshire he is shown as being 29 yrs, single and a farm labourer.

Military History

Private Alfred Drury enlisted at Warsop, he served with the 15th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 14th October 1918 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot, Memorial.
