Reginald Rawson Day was born in 1898 at Nottingham and was the son of Freeman Day a domestic gardener and Mary Elizabeth Day née Rawson of 5 Robey Terrace, St Pauls Avenue, Hyson Green. NottinghamHis father Freeman Pickard Day was born in 1848 at Redmile, Leicestershire, he was married 3 times, he married his first wife Jemima Camm born 1845 Little Blytham, Lincolnshire, they were married in 1868 at Borne, Lincolnshire they had a son Harry Day b1860, his wife Jemima died in 1870 at Borne, aged 25 yrs, he married his second wife Harriett Morris Rawson born 1836, in 1872 their marriage was recorded in the Grantham registration district, they went on to have 2 children, Lucy b1874 Sproxton and Fred b1882 Nottingham, his second wife died in 1895 aged 59 yrs.Freeman married his third wife Mary Elizabeth Rawson b1866 at Tuxford in 1898 their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham registration district, they went on to have the following children, Reginald Rawson b1898, Edna May b1899, Olive b1902 and Kathleen b1906, all were born in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family were living at 7 Robey Terrace, St Pauls Avenue, Hyson Green, Nottingham and were shown as Freeman 63 yrs a domestic gardener, he is living with wife Mary Elizabeth 45 yrs and their children, Reginald 12 yrs a scholar, Olive 9 yrs a scholar and Kathleen 5 yrs.

Military History

Private Reginald Day served with the Durham Light Infantry, he was wounded a gun shot wound to the right elbow and thigh during active service and discharged from the Army on 6th January 1920. He died from Tuberculosis on 7th April 1923 and is buried in the Nottingham General Cemetery.

Extra Information

Due to the date of his death being after 1921 he is not recorded on the CWGC death notice [n.e.p.9.4.23] gave his regiment and stated he 'died after long illness caused by war service'. General Cemetey, Nottingham
