Family History

Frank Pickard was born Retford in 1890. He had six siblings all born in Retford, Eleanor born 1877, Charles 1880, Henry 1882, Alice 1884, Margaret 1885 and Tom 1888, Frank being the youngest. Their parents were Harry Pickard, a solicitor’s law clerk and Sally Pickard (nee Wright). After initially living in Church Gate, Retford in 1891, they later moved to 151 Moorgate Hill. By 1911, four of the children had left home, leaving Margaret, Tom, employed as an engineering draughtsman and Frank, a commercial clerk.

Military History

After enlisting at Retford, he served in the Notts Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry 1/1st Battalion. They took part in the Gallipoli campaign leaving the UK 27th April 1915. As his death occurred only nine days later, he probably lost his life whilst at sea as reported in Soldiers Died in the Great War. He is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Gallipoli
