Family History

Harry Taylor Osborne was born in 1891 at Warsop and was the son of Fred and Elizabeth Osborne née Taylor of Church Street, Warsop. His father Fred was born in 1866 at Mansfield, his mother Elizabeth Taylor was born in 1869 at Warsop, they were married in 1890 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield registration district, they went on to have the following children, Harry b1891, Elsie b1893 both were born at Warsop, they had the following Nelly b1885, Kitty b1897 and Charles b1900 all born in Mansfield. Harry Taylor Osborne married his wife Annie Elizabeth Eaton (born 11th January 1892) they married in 1912 they lived at 44 Church Street, Warsop and had the following children: Harry, born 2October 1912, Gladys, born November 1915 and Eric, born 14th September 1917. Eric was born just a month before his father's death. Following his death his widow Annie was awarded a pension of 29 shillings and 7 pence a week which commenced on 13th May 1918.

Military History

Private Harry Taylor Osborne enlisted on 18th May 1917 at Derby, he served with 11th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was only in France a month before he was killed in action on 16th October 1917 .whilst in the line near Zillebeke, Belgium. ( possible home to see his new born son before going to France). Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium

Inscription on family headstone in churchyard of St Peter and St Paul (Church Warsop): '(Martha, wife of William Osborne, died 1910 age 67). In cherished memory of Pte. Harry Taylor Osborne who fell in action in France Octr 16th 1917, aged 26 years. Grant him O Lord, eternal rest.'
