Family History

William Matchett was born in 1890 at Sutton in Ashfield the son of the late Samuel a general servant and Dinah Matchett of 41 Sherwood Road, Sutton in Ashfield Samuel was born in 1846 at Little Ashby, Leicestershire, he died in 1900 aged 54 yrs, Dinah was born in 1846 also at Little Ashby, married in 1865 at Leicestershire they had 13 children, Dinah re married in 1901 in Mansfield to Isaac Burton a collier. In 1911 the family lived at 41 Sherwood Road, Sutton in Ashfield William Matchett 20 yrs is a collier horse driver. William married Elizabeth Buckley (born 22nd April 1896) in 1914 at Mansfield, they lived at 39 Sherwood Road, Sutton in Ashfield. Commencing 23rd April 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week.

Military History

Private William Matchett enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Sutton in Ashfield. He died of wounds on 18th October 1916 and is buried at Sutton in Ashfield Cemetery.
