Norman Robert Stoppard was born 1897 the son of Robert Stoppard a grocer and general dealer and the late Mary Swain and the brother of Lewis and Winifred . In 1911 they lived at Todds Row Kirkby in Ashfield. Robert was born in 1869 at Eastwood, Mary Swain was born in 1874 at Sheepbridge, Derbyshire, she died prior to the 1911 census,
