George Henry Udall

George Henry Udall was born in 1887 at Mansfield and was the son of the late George a corporation labourer and Lizzie Udall née Griffin of 7 Bradder Street, Mansfield. His father George was born in 1852 at Mansfield he died in 1904 aged 52 yrs, his mother Lizzie Griffin was born in 1862 at Thame, Oxfordshire, they were married in 1882 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield registration district, they went on to have the following children all of whom were born at Mansfield, Emily b1883, Florence b1885, George Henry b1887, Lizzie b1888, Joseph b1893, James b1894, Edward b1896, Bertie b1901 and Lily b1903. In the 1911 census George Henry has left the family home, he is living at 26 Graham Street, Ilkeston, he is shown as being 24 yrs of age, single and a baker, he is living with Mary Freeman 68 yrs a widower and her son Alec Freeman 22 yrs. His mother Lizzie went on to marry Arthur Shelton a coal miner in 1910 at Mansfield, and in the 1911 census the family are shown living at 7 Bradder Street, Mansfield and are shown as Arthur Shelton 51 yrs a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Lizzie Shelton 50 yrs and her children, Joseph 18 yrs a colliery banksman, James 17 yrs a colliery pony driver (underground) Edward 15 yrs a colliery pony driver (underground) Bertie 10 yrs a scholar and Lily 8 yrs a scholar. George Henry married his wife Sarah May Dixon (born 21st May 1886) in 1911 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield Registration district, they lived at Old Westwood and had two children, George born 22nd September 1912 and Florence May born 19th February 1915. Following his death his widow Sarah was awarded a pension of 25 shillings and five pence a week which commence on 10th June 1918.
