Arthur was born on 26th April 1889 in Lowdham he was christened on 28th July 1889 in Saint Lawrence Church, Gonalston and was the son of Joseph and Eliza Vann née Jepson of The Hermitage, Gonalston Lane, Lowdham. His father Joseph was born in 1858 in Blaby, Leicestershire and his mother Eliza Jepson was born in 1860 in Woodborough , they were married in 1881 in Nottinghamshire they had 8 children, Charles b1882, Percy 183, Emma 1884, Arthur b1889, Hilda 1895 Sarah b1898, Violet b1900 and Winne (Edith) b1902 all were born in Lowdham. In the 1911 census the family are living at The Hermitage, Gonalston Lane, Lowdham.
Private Arthur Vann, enlisted in Wakefield and served with the 6th Battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. He landed in France on 21st May 1915 .He was killed in action on 31st August 1915. and is buried in Ypres Reservoir Cemetery, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium (grave ref. 10.A.2)
