Charles William Voce was born in 1898 at Fiskerton and was the son of William a general labourer and Lizzzie Voce née Gardiner of Fiskerton-cum-Morton Nottinghamshire. His father William was born in 1871 at Southwell and his mother Lizzie Gardiner was born in 1867 at North Muskham, they were married in 1891 their marriage was recorded in the Suthwell Registration District, they went on to have the following children, Thomas Dennis b1892, George Walter b1896, Charles William b1898, John Gardiner b1902, James Henry b1904 and Edgar Arthur Voce b1907, they were all born in Fiskerton. . In the 1911 census they lived at Fiskerton and were shown as William 40 yrs a general labourer, he is living with his wife Lizzie 44 yrs and their children, Thomas Dennis 19 yrs a domestic gardener, George Walter 15 yrs a grocers assistant, Charles Wiliam 13 yrs as assistant gardener, John Gardiner 9 yrs a scholar James Henry 7 yrs a scholar and Edgar Arthur 4 yrs.
Corporal Charles William Voce enlisted on 11th December 1915 he gave his age as 18 yrs and 5 months and his occupation as a millers labourer. He was posted to the reserves the following day. He was mobilised for war on 25th May 1916 at Derby and was posted to the North Staffordshire Regiment. He was transferred to the 1st battalion Sherwood Foresters on 5th June 1917 and embarked from Folkstone on 16th May 1917 arriving at Boulogne the same day. He was promoted to Lance Corporal on 16th September 1917. He died of pneumonia and influenza on 27th February 1919 at the 2nd Australia casualty clearing station, France, and is buried at Ath Communal Cemetery, Hainaut, Belgium.
His brother Thomas Dennis Voce, also served during the 'Great War' he served with the service number 38735 in the Lincolnshire Regiment, he enlisted on 2nd March 1916 and after serving abroad and being wounded was discharged from the Army on 19th March 1919 and awarded a silver war badge number B165616
