Family History

Christopher John Etches was born in 1884 at Norwell, he married Alice Foster (born 3rd July 1878 Nottingham) at Nottingham in 1910. In the 1911 census they are living at 3 Fir Place, Sherwood Street, Nottingham and are shown as John Christopher Etches 27 yrs a coal carter, he is living with his wife Alice 34 yrs a lace ironer. Commencing 17th April 1916 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week. His widow re married on 10th May 1916 to A Foster she lived at 7 Rushworth Terrace, Union Road, Lenton.

Military History

Rifleman Christopher John Etches, enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 1st Battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps. He landed in France on 16th June 1915 and was killed in action on 3rd October 1915. He is commemorated on the Loos Memorial. Pas de Calais, France.

Loved in life, honoured in death. Cherished memories. – Widow Alice. “ETCHES. – In loving memory of our dear son Chris, killed at Loos October 3rd, 1915.
