Family History

James Leeming was born in 1888 at Old Radford, he was the son of George Leeming a frame worker knitter and Mary Ann Leeming née Woodward of 15 Priory Street, Lenton. George was born in 1845 Nottingham, Mary Ann Woodward was born in 1849 at Nottingham, they were married on 5th February 1877 and went on to have 5 children, In 1911 James lived at 15 Priory Street, Lenton, he is living with his father George 66 yrs a frame work knitter. James is 22 yrs and is a baker. James married Ethel Slater in 1912 at Radford, they lived at 61 Julian Road, West Bridgford. Commencing 12th November 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week.

Military History

Private James Leeming, enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at West Bridgford. He served with the 2nd Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment and was killed in action on 18th April 1918. He is buried in Westouter Churchyard and Extension.

In memoriam published 19th April 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “LEEMING. – In loving memory of my dear husband, Pte. J. Leeming, 2nd Sherwood Foresters, who was killed in action on April 18th, 1918.
