Harold Henry Lee was born in 1895 in Nottingham and was the son of the late Frank an artist and sculpture and Jane Lee of 130a Birkin Avenue Hyson Green Nottingham. His father Frank was born in 1849 in Bath, Somerset and his mother Jane was born in 1856 in Ryton, Warwickshire. they had the following children ,Violet b1883 in Bristol, Frank b1884 in Birmingham, Frederick b1893 Manchester and Harold Henry b1895 in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 130A Birkin Ave, Nottingham and are shown as Jane 55 yrs a widow a laundress and her children Violet 28 yrs a machinist, Frederick 18 yrs a brewery clerk and Harold 16 yrs a grocers assistant.
Sergeant Harold Henry Lee, served with the 1/1st South Notts. Hussars, he died of wounds on 28th November 1917 in Palestine. He is buried in Ramleh War Cemetery.
His brother, Lance Corporal Frank Lee enlisted in Nottingham and served with the 2nd Battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, he was killed in action on 11th February 1917, he is buried in Ten Tree Alley Cemetry , Puisieux grave reference B 6 War obituary, All Saints Church News, January 1918: 'Harold Herbert Lee, 130a Birkin Avenue, Private South Notts Hussars, he served from the commencement, died of wounds November 28th [1917], aged 23. Youngest son of Mrs Lee who is a widow, second son of family to fall, was a member of the Boys Brigade and a Sunday School scholar.' Obituary published 7th December 1917 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “LEE. – Died of wounds, November 28th, 1917, Sergt.
