Family History

Harold Lee was born in 1897 at Granby, he was the son of Samuel Lee a farmer and Sarah Elizabeth Lee née Poole of The Elms, Granby. His father Samuel Lee was born in 1854 at Calverton, his mother Elizabeth Poole was born in 1854 at Woodborough, they were married on 29th December 1874 at St Swithuns Church, Woodborough, they went on to have 17 children, sadly 4 were to die in infancy or early childhood. In the 1911 census the family are living at The Elms, Granby, Samuel 57 yrs is a farmer, he is living with his wife Sarah Elizabeth 57 yrs and their children, Sarah Jane 35 yrs assisting with home work, Annie 19 yrs assisting with home work, Ernest 18 yrs a shepherd on a farm, Dorothy 16 yrs a typist and Harold 14 yrs a scholar

Military History

Pioneer Harold Lee enlisted at Birmingham whilst residing at Walsall he served with No. 1 Heavy Art. Signal Section, Royal Engineers. He died on 2nd November 1918 in Egypt and is buried at Cairo War Memorial Cemetery (ref Q.56).
