John Thomas Judson was born in 1900 at Newark and was the son of John a general labourer for the Newark Corporation and Lilly Judson, of St Marks Lane, Newark. His father John was born in 1874 at Newark, his mother Lilly Judson was born in 1875 at Tupton, Derbyshire they were married C1897 at Newark and went on to have 5 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were Lilly b1898, John Thomas b1900 and Robert Baden b1901 all were born at Newark. In the 1911 census the family lived at 6 Lenton Terrace, Mill Gate Newark and were shown as John 37 yrs a general labourer, he is living with his wife Lilly 36 yrs and their children Lily 13 yrs a scholar, John Thomas 11 yrs a scholar and Robert Baden 10 yrs a scholar. They state they have been married for 14 yrs and have had 5 children 2 of whom have died.
Private John Thomas Judson enlisted at Nottingham on 5th March 1918, he served with the 7th battalion The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment. He was killed in action on 21st September 1918 I the village of Ronsoy and is buried at Unicorn Cemetery, Vendhuile, Aisne, France.
Article published 7th December 1918 in the Newark Herald :- Eldest son of Pte John Judson & Mrs Judson, St. Marks Lane, Newark. Attended the Christ Church School and for some time a drummer in the 5th Newark Boy Scouts. After leaving school was employed by Messrs. Simpson & Co. Ltd., Lowfields and subsquently as a carter by Mr J.C. Kew, in whose employ he was at joining-up on the 5th March 1918 into the Notts. & Derbys.. Was killed in the village of Ronsoy by a shell striking the bivoace in which he and his three comrades were living and all of them were buried and killed instantly. His father, who is now in the R.A.F. is stationed at Pembroke College, Oxford.
