Family History

Harold Green was born in 1899 at Mansfield, he was the son of Walter a bricklayer and Frances Green née Widdowson of 27 Dallas Street, Mansfield. His father Walter was born in 1862 at Mansfield, his mother Frances Widdowson was born in 1871 at Whittington, Lancashire, they were married on 15th October 1893 at St John’s, Mansfield, they had 3 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood. In the 1911 census the family are living at 15 Grove Street, Mansfield, Walter 49 yrs is a bricklayer, he is living with his wife Frances 40 yrs and their children, Ethel 22 yrs a machinist, Samuel 21 yrs a bricklayer and Harold 12 yrs a scholar.

Military History

Private Harold Green enlisted at Derby whilst residing at Mansfield, he served with the 12th battalion East Surrey Regiment, died of disease (tb) on 8th January 1918 and is buried at Giavera British Military Cemetery, Italy.
