Family History

The son of Edward and Alice Mary Kirk he was born 1892 at Radford. His father worked on the railways as a Goods Guard. In 1901 the family including Arthurs 2 younger sisters were living at 29 Hodgkinson Street Netherfield. By 1911 another son had come along and the family were now at 110 Hodgkinson Street. Arthur had left school and was now also working on the railways as a Loco engine cleaner, although by 1914 he had become a fireman. By 1916 the family were at No 4 Hodgkinson Street. In May 1921 his mother received his British War medal followed in January 1922 by the Victory medal

Military History

Arthur initially enlisted with the Bedfordshire Regiment at Bedford on 3 Sept 1914 as Private 14495. On 26 June 1916 he transferred to the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment and they were posted overseas 1 July 1916 arriving at Etaples on the 2nd. He served with the 9th battalion. Arthur was killed in action and his death was reported in the Times casualty lists Monday October 9 1916. , He was eligible for the British and Victory medals
