Cecil was born in Sleaford in 1887 and was the son of James Jarman a railway signalman and Emily Harriet Jarman (nee Ede) James and Emily had a total of seven children, however 1 child died prior to 1911 and James died in 1914, leaving Emily a widow to bring up her family. In the 1901 the family are living at 4 George St, Lincoln Cecil is 13 years of age. On 7th December 1910 George marries his wife Amelia Smith who is 27 years of age and from Retford at St Saviours church in Clarborough. By the 1911 census Cecil's widowed mother Emily is still living with 2 of her children at the same address at 4 George St. Northern Terrace,Lincoln. However Cecil is now living with his wife Amelia at 334 Langsett Road at Sheffiled , he is now 24 years of age and he is a tobacconist, his wife is helping him the business and also staying with them is Amelia's sister Eva May jarman 17 years.
Cecil enlisted in Retford and at first served with service number 68928 in the Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys ) Regiment but later transferred to the 1/4th battalion the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. He died of wounds on 22nd April 1918 and he is buried in Tourcoing (Point Neuville) Communal Cemetery, Nord. France, grave reference M 9
