David Proctor was born in 1892 at Amberhill, Boston and was the son of Edward Henry a farmer and Betsy Proctor née Baker of Homeland Villa, Amber Hill, Boston, Lincolnshire. His father Edward Henry was born in 1852 at Sutton Fen Lincolnshire and his mother Betsy Baker was born in 1840 at Kirkstead, Lincolnshire, they were married on 11th June 1874 at the Chapel at Brothertoft, Lincs, they went on to have the following children, Edward Henry b1876, Mary Elizabeth b1878, Betsy b1881, George b1882, Grace b1890 David b1892 and Arthur b1900 all were born in Linconshire. In the 1911 census his parents and some siblings are living at Amberhill village near Boston and are shown as Edward Henry 60 yrs a farmer and innkeeper, he is living with his wife Betsy 58 yrs and their children, Grace 21 yrs a farmers daughter and Arthur 11 yrs a scholar. It has not been possible to find David Proctor on the 1911 census.
Private David Proctor enlisted on 2nd September 1914 at Newark, he gave his age as 23 yrs and 136 days, his address was Homeland Villas, Amberhill, Boston, Lincolnshire, his next of kin was his father Edward of the same address his occupation was that of a baker. He was posted to the Leicestershire Regiment and on 29th September 1915 went to France. He suffered from frost bite and on 9th November 1915 was admitted tot he 43rd casualty clearing station and then to hospital at Rouen. On 20th November 1915 he was returned to England for treatment. Once recovered he again landed in France on 18th May 1916 and on 16th July 1916 was killed in action, having no known graver his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
