Family History

Herbert Tyson was one of five children born to John & Sarah Tyson, (née Troop), at Rampton, Notts in 1897. His siblings were Christopher born Sturton, Notts in 1887, Mary born Ordsall, 1891, Harriet born Rampton in 1896, Joseph born Ordsall in 1905. In the 1911 census the family are living at 84 All Hallows Street, Ordsall and at the time of Herbert’s death, his parents were living at 3 Bridge Street, Worksop.

Military History

Herbert enlisted on 8th June 1915 , he gave his date of birth as 15th May 1897 , and his occupation as that of engine driver, his next of kin was his mother Sarah of 101 Earlmere Ave, Balby Doncaster and later of 54 Potter Street, Worksop. He was drafted to the British Expeditionary Force on 2nd January 1917 and joined Nelson Battalion Royal Naval Division on 23rd February 1917 and served with them until his death on 23rd April 1917. His body was never recovered or identified and his name is commemorated on the Arras memorial, France. Further Details available on line at National Archives
