Family History

Charles was born in 1894 in Ruddington and was the son of John a frame work knitter and Mary Elizabeth Henson née Hardy of Woodley Street Ruddington Nottinghamshire. John was born in 1860 at Ruddington, Mary Elizabeth Hardy in 1862 at Epperstone. Married in 1884, they had five children, three surviving infancy - Tom b1892 Aldershot, Charles b1894 Ruddington and Arthur b1899 Ruddington. In 1911, they lived on Woodley Street, Ruddington. Tom was a plate layer and Charlie a tailor.

Military History

Charles Henson enlisted in Nottingham on 5th February 1913 and was posted to the 7th battalion Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment. At the outbreak of war he was embodied for service on 5th August 1914 and transferred to the North Midland Midland Cyclist Company, Army Cyclist Corps on 12th November 1914. He embarked from Southampton on 26th February 1915, disembarking at Le Harve on 28th February 1915. He was wounded in action on 13th June 1915 at Bailleul and admitted to No 3 Casualty Clearing Station where he died of his wounds the following day . He was buried in Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension .
