Family History

Cecil John Spyve came from a family of ten children born to Walter, (an agricultural labourer), and Fanny Spyve nee Fell. The children’s births ranged from 1886 to 1907. Starting out in Sheffield, where Walter and Fanny married in 1884, they spent a brief time in Elksley in 1891, living with Fanny's parents and moved to Bothamsall by 1892 where Cecil John was born in that year. In 1911 Cecil John Spyve was working as a general farm labourer. As his name appears on two Hardwick memorials at Clumber, it could be speculated that he worked on the estate there after 1911

According to some brief records, Cecil was in resident in Reford at the time of enlisting which was at Worksop. He went to France where he was killed in action and was buried in Woburn Abbey Cemetery, France
