Frank Robinson and Maria Pressley married in Worksop in1885. They started their married life living at 9 Grafton Street, Worksop and Frank working as a railway porter. By 1901, Frank had settled on being a coal dealer and now living at 52 Newgate Street, Their first child, John Pressley Robinson, sadly died when he was 8 years old. However, they had three more children, Lilly born 1891, Dorothy born 1897 and Sidney in 1899. It was their youngest child and only son who enlisted in the army in 1917 and who consequently came to grief the following year.
Pte. S. Frank Robinson Worksop Guardian 28 June 1918 Another Worksop lad to make the great sacrifice is Pte. Sydney Frank Robinson, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Robinson, of, 52, Newgate Street, Worksop, who was killed in action in France, on June 4th. Pte. Robinson who was in the 4th. South Staff’s, joined the forces in Feb., last year, and was sent to France in December. He was taken ill and was in Hospital for three months, and after recovering he went up to the line into the trenches on May 26th, on which date he wrote his last letter home. He was a member of a much respected Worksop family, who will have the deepest sympathy of their many friends in their bereavement. Prior to enlisting Pte. Robinson was employed at Worksop Manner Gardens, and had previously worked at Manton Colliery. No details as to the manner in which he met his death have as yet been received.
