Family History

William Dove (junior) was born in 1888 the son of William Dove (senior) a boot maker and Ada Dove née Shore and the brother of Lily, Harold and Joseph Dove. In 1911 the family lived at High Pavement Sutton in Ashfield Nottinghamshire. William Dove (senior) was born in 1864 and Ada Shore was born in 1866 both were born in Sutton in Ashfield, married in 1886 they went on to have 5 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood. William Dove (junior) married Priscilla Clay (born 29th August 1891) on 26th December 1914 at the Parish Church, Sutton in Ashfield, they lived at 16 Langford Street, Sutton in Ashfield they had a son William born 12th June 1917. Commencing 15th April 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 9 pence a week.

Military History

Private William Dove was called up on 12th March 1917 at Derby, giving his age as 28 yrs and 297 days he was a hosiery hand. He landed at Calais on 13th July 1917. He was buried on 26th September 1917 as a result suffered from concussion. He was wounded on 5th OCtober 1917 a gun shot wound in his back and was admitted to the 47th General Hospital at Le Treport and died on 10th October 1917 as a result of his wounds. He is buried: Mont Huon Military Cemetery, Le Treport, France. Plot 3. Row N. Grave 7B.
