Family History

Charles Dent was born in 1879 at Newark and was the son of the late Thomas a maltsters labourer and Hannah Dent of 3 Hospital Lane, Newark. His father Thomas was born in 1832 at Shelton and his mother Hannah was born in 1839 at Everton , they went on to have the following children, Emily born 1865, George born 1871, Sarah b1873 and Charles born 1879 all were born in Newark. His father Thomas died aged 48 yrs at Newark in 1881. In the 1911 census , Charles is living with his widowed mother Hannah and are shown living at 3 Hospital Lane Newark and are shown as Hannah 70 yrs as a widow and Charles 32 yrs a builders mason.

Military History

Private Charles Dent enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing in Newark, he served with the 1st battalion Lincolnshire Regiment. He was killed in action on 16th April 1918 and having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Zonnebeke, Belgium.
