Harry Sheldon

Harry was the second son of George Sheldon and his wife Mary nee Waddington. George was born in Swnderby, Lincolnshire, and his birth registered in 1859 (J/F/M Newark) and Mary at Beck Hall, Lincolnshire, and her birth registered in 1858 (J/F/M Lincoln). They were married in 1889 (O/N/D Lincoln) and had three children: Charles b. 1 December 1890 (O/N/D Newark), Harry b. 1892 (O/N/D Newark) and Edith b. 1895 (A/M/J Newark). All the chlldren were born in North Collingham. George was a farmer and cattle dealer of The Farm, Low Street, North Collingham. In 1890 George (32) and Mary (33) were living on Low Street, North Collingham, with their four month old son, Charles. George employed a domestic servant, Martha Barker (17) and a general servant, Frederick Roe (18). By 1901 George and Mary had three children, Charles (10), Harry (8) and Edith (5). In the household on the night of the census were a visitor, Charles Sheldon (24), who was probably George's younger brother, and two female domestic servants. By 1911 both Charles and Harry were working on their father's farm while Edith (15) was a boarder at the Western House School, Ropewalk, Nottingham. George still employed two general servants. George died on 17 December 1931; he was still living in North Collingham. Probate was granted to Charles Sheldon and Maurice Sheldon (farmers) and a solicitor. Effects £31981. Charles married Constance M Wright (b. 3 September 1891) in 1917 (O/N/D Newark). In 1939 at the time of the England & Wales Register, Charles, a farmer and grazier, and Constance were living at 'Crescent House', Newark. Also in the household was George Sheldon (b. 9 March 1919) who was described as a farmer and probably helping his father on the family farm. Charles died on 7 April 1980; he was then living on Low Street. North Collingham. Harry's sister Edith has not yet been traced after the 1911 Census.
