Bertie Mee

Bertie was born in Daybrook in 1895, the son of Thomas Castledine Mee a coal miner and the late Ann Mee.(nee Merrin) of Bells Terrace, Portland Street. Hs father Thomas Castledine Mee was born in 1846 in Aslockton and his mother Ann Merrin was born in 1851 at Syerston (she died 1902 aged 53 yrs ) . They were married in 1884, their marriage was recorded in the Belper Registration district, they went on to have the following children, John Henry b1871 Somercoates, Joshua b1879 Somercoates, Thomas William b1879 Somercoates, Isiah b18882 Somercoates, Florence b1884, Somercoates , Mabel b1887 Newstead, Ada b1890 Daybrook, Ernest b1893 Daybrook, Ethel b1895 Daybrook. In the 1911 Census the family are living at Bells Terrace, Portland Street, Daybrook and are shown as Thomas Castledine 65 yrs a coal miner, he is a widow and is living with his children, Ada 21 yrs a laundry hand, Ernest 18 yrs a brewery hand, Ethel 16 yrs a laundry hand and Bertie 16 yrs a brewery hand by He attended the Daybrook Infants School and then the British School on Front Street Arnold. He was a member of the Daybrook Baptist Church. .
