Father:Henry Tunnicliffe, born in 1864 at Altofts, Yorkshire, working as a coal hewer. Mother:Elizabeth Tunnicliffe, born in 1862 in Ilkeston. Brothers:Frederick, born in 1892 at Denaby Main, Yorkshire and Henry, also born in 1892 but at Ilkeston. Sisters: Elizabeth, born in 1885 at Ilkeston, Amy, born in 1890 at Denaby Main, Clara, born in 1895 in Ilkeston and Hannah, born in 1899, also at Ilkeston. James was the husband of Rebecca Tunnicliffe (née Nicholson) of 8 Essex Terrace, Essex Street, Meadows Nottingham. They had one child, James Frederick, born in 1910 in Nottingham.
Tunnicliffe volunteered for service and following training he was drafted to France on 10/9/1915. He served with 'C' Bty 95th Bde. Royal Field Artillery. Having survived the war he died in hospital on 01/10/1919. He was interred in the General Cemetery, Nottingham.
