Family History

Thomas Henry, ( a coal miner), and Emma Pridmore, nee Fitzjohn, had 8 children born in Worksop. They lived at 104 Westgate until the parents deaths. Their children were, James (the only one born Shireoaks), Henry, Emma, Ellen, John, Hannah, Rose, and Tom. A year after the youngest was born, Emma, their mother, died age 36 and in 1905 their father died age 56. It would have been about this time that Henry Pridmore joined the army. He went through the African war and after serving his time, left. According to a record, he re-enlisted at Mansfield when war broke out.

Military History

Pte. Harry Pridmore Worksop Guardian 10 September 1915 Still news comes of Worksop soldiers killed in action. The casualty list published on Wednesday, included the name of Harry Pridmore, of Worksop, brother of Mr James Pridmore, the licensee of the Shireoaks Inn, Westgate, Worksop. Private Pridmore, who was killed in the charge at Hooge, when after terrific fighting, trenches were captured from the Germans, had served his time as a reservist, but on the outbreak of war, re-enlisted in his old regiment, the Durham Light Infantry. In the charge this regiment suffered badly. He served through the South African War. Pte Pridmore who was 34 years of age, had recently been married. He died a glorious death.
