Born in 1892, he was the son of Henry and Caroline Jones. His father was a wood working machinist doing shop fitting work. In 1901 the family had moved to Mansfield and were living at 29, Welbeck Street. In 1911 the family were living in Holyoake Villas at Colwick. Henry junior was a timber clerk working in the same shop fitting trade as his father. Henry had a younger brother and sister. Henry married Millicent Lizzie Henson in September 1915. He had been based at Llandrindnod Wells after joining the army and it is possible they met there as they were married in the local church. By 1921 she was living at 79, Main Street East, Carlton. Millicent received his memorial plaque and scroll and his medals following Henry's death. They had no children.
Henry enlisted at Nottingham and joined the army at Sheffield on 30 August 1915. He served with 113rd Field Ambulance. They embarked from Southampton and arrived at Le Havre 18 Feb 1916. He was killed at Ypres and is buried at Brandhoek New Military Cemetery, Belgium. He was eligible for the British and Victory medals and these were received by his wife in 1921. His personal effects as sent to his wife included a bible, a hymn book and a book of poetry as well as a torch, a pipe and a cigarette holder.
