Alfred George Simpson was born 1st Jan 1893 in Laneham and was the son of Joseph a farmer and Charlotte Simpson (nee Benson) of Stokeham. Joseph was born in 1864 at Rampton, Charlotte Benson was born in 1864 at Sturton Le Steeple they were married on 14th March 1888 at Botttesford, they went on to have 3 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood, their other surviving child was William born 1895. In the 1911 census the family are living at Stokeham Joseph 47 yrs is a farmer, he is living with his wife Charlotte 7 yrs and their 2 sons, Alfred George 18 yrs a farmers son working on the farm and William 16yrs a farmers son working on the farm

Military History

Private Alfred George Simpson enlisted at Retford and served with the 1st battalion Nottinghamshire Yeomanry (Sherwood Rangers) he was killed in action in Egypt and is buried in Ramleh War Cemetery, Israel (grave ref F.12)
