Family History

Martin Patrick Niland was born in 1876. Martin married Martha Hollingworth (born 8th October 1882) in 1902 in Nottingham they lived at Main Road, Chilwell and had the following children , Martin Patrick born 17th September 1902, John born 26th August 1904, Margaret born 22nd October 1905, Nora born 10th August 1907, James born 21st June 1908, Martha Ann born 19th November 1910, Bridget May born 8th May 1913 and Doris Mary born 12th April 1915. In 1911 the family are living at High Street, Chilwell are shown Martin Niland 35 yrs a plasterer, he is living with his wife Martha 29 yrs and their children, Martin 8 yrs, John 6 yrs, Margaret 5 yrs, Nora 3yrs, James 1 year old and Martha Ann 4 months old. Commencing 3rd December 1917 Martha was awarded a pension of 38 shillings and 9 pence a week. His widow later re married to become Martha Revell of Cliffe Villas High Road Chilwell Nottingham.

Military History

Private Martin Niland enlisted at Nottingham, he died on 19th April 1917 in Palestine and his name is commemorated on the Jerusalem memorial, Israel.
