James Ernest Moore

Private James E Moore Worksop Guardian 31 January 1919 In our issue of July 26th 1918, we reported that Private James Ernest Moore, 7th Leicesters, sixth son of Mrs Moore, 13 Crown Street, and husband of Mrs Moore, 6 Humber Street, was missing. Later it was ascertained that he was a prisoner of war, and the other day his wife received official information that he died in Dulmen, in Germany on Oct 19th. Pte Moore was 23 years of age, and leaves a little son. He enlisted in November 1914, prior to which time he worked at Manton Colliery. He is reported to have died through wounds and influenza, though when taken a prisoner was unwounded. This would seem to be a matter for enquiry. In a letter to his widow, the Rev. G W Vickers, English Missioner at Dulmen, says that an English doctor of the R.A.M.C. attended him. He was laid to rest in the cemetery just outside the camp and the English soldiers provided a wreath and extra fittings for this last ceremony. “We cannot express in a letter the sympathy we feel for you and all who are losing loved ones. We trust, however, that you will have the faith to believe he is not lost, but simply gone before. This life is not the end of all, and now a richer life awaits all who believe.” Mrs Moore has also received a letter of sympathy from RSM Gammond, President British Help Committee.
