Fred Metheringham was born in 1883 the son of Arthur a lace manufacturer and Emma Metheringham née Francis of The Limes, Chilwell Nottingham Arthur and Emma Francis were born in 1862 at Nottingham, married in 1880 at Nottingham and had a further child Alice born 1903 at Chilwell Fred married Alice May Hallam (born 4th May 1885 ) in 1908 their marriage was recorded in the Shardlow registration district. they lived at North Drive Chilwell In 1911 Fred is living at North Drive Chilwell, he is shown as Fred 28 yrs a levers lace draughtsman he is living with his wife Alice May 25 yrs. In 1911 his father is living at The Limes, Chilwell, he is shown as Arthur Metheringham 49 yrs married a lace manufacturer, he is living with his children, Harold 17 yrs a lace draughtsman and Alice 8 yrs of age and a scholar.

Military History

Private Fred Methringham enlisted at Derby whilst residing at Chilwell, he initially served with the service number 86832 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action whilst serving with the 38th battalion Machine Gun Corps and his name is commemorated on the Vis-En-Artois Memorial, France.
