Family History

William Owen Morris was born in 1878 at Sutton in Ashfield, he married Alice Hall (born 21st June 1879 Sutton in Ashfield) on 26th June 1902 at the Parish Church at Sutton in Ashfield, they lived at 12 Langford Street Sutton in Ashfield Nottinghamshire. He had adopted son Henry Pitt Morris born 27th March 1910. In 1911 the family were living at 11 Langford Street, Sutton in Ashfield, William Owen is 33 yrs and a hotel waiter, he is living with his wife Alice 32 yrs. Commencing 4th November 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week.

Military History

Private William Owen Morris enlisted on 9th December 1915 at Sutton in Ashfield giving his age as 37 yrs and 11 months, his next of kin was his wife Alice. He was initially posted with the service number 57813 into the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He landed in France 19th December 1916 and was serving with the 1st battalion Leicestershire Regiment when he died of wounds (gun shot wound to head) on 19th April 1918. He is buried at Wimereux Communal Cemetery
