Family History

George Blatherwick was the son of William and Sarah Elizabeth Stubbins (nee Blatherwick) of Nether Langwith. William and Sarah Elizabeth married in 1895 and had two children, a girl named Edith in 1898 and a boy, George Blatherwick in 1898 In 1901 William. an insurance agent, his wife and children lived in Nether Langwith. By 1911, William was not only an insurance agent for the Prudential Assurance Co., but also a farmer. George worked in a bank in London when he left school, then moved to Mansfield where he was a bank clerk.

Military History

Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, 53rd Battalion Whilst waiting to become eligible for active service, George joined the Young Men's Battalion. He died of pneumonia at Rugeley, Staffordshire, while in training, aged just 18 years. George was buried in Norton Cuckney St Mary churchyard (West part, near S.W extension). His grave has a private headstone, a four foot white marble cross on a tiered plinth.
