Family History

Leonard Nixon was born in 1899 the son of William a farm labourer and Annie Nixon née Tomlinson of 111 Vernon Road, Kirkby in Ashfield and the brother of George, William, James, Olive and Amy Nixon. William Nixon was born in 1858 at Blidworth, Annie Kirk Tomlinson was born 1859 at Sheffield, married on 29th March 1884 at Blidworth they went on to have 9 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood.

Military History

Private Leonard Nixon, attested on 20th November 1916 giving his age as 18 years and 187 days and his occupation as a coal carter. He was called up on 29th May 1917 at the Derby Depot and served with the 1st Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment,. He landed in France on 6th February 1918 he died of wounds as a prisoner of war on 3rd June 1918. He is buried in Guise (La Desolation) French National Cemetery, Flavigny-le-Petit.
