Harry was born in Walkeringham in 1895, in the 1911 census we find him living with his grandparents William and Selina Spencer at The Beeches Walkeringham , he is 18 years of age single and a labourer.
Harry enlisted at Misterton shortly after war was declared in September 1914 and served with the 8th battalion Lincolnshire Regiment he went to the front the following year. He was reported missing in action on 31st July 1917 but it was not until 12th July 1918 that he was reported killed in action on that date of 31st July 1917 he was 22 years of age . The local newspaper reported :- News has been received by his grandparents that private harry P Spencer who was reported missing on July 31st 1917 has been reported killed in action on 12th July 1918 .He enlisted in September 1914 and went to the front in the following year,he was 22 years of age. His name is commemorated on the Menin Gate memorial Ypres,Belgium
