Family History

David was born at Rotherham in 1900,the son of John, a steel smelter by trade and Sarah Brannick (née Brocklesby). He had 5 siblings :- William born 1883,Albert born 1885,Alice born 1889,Kate born 1893 James born 1897. In 1911 he lived at Pump Yard West Stockwith, a boarder with George Atkinson along with his mother who later married George Atkinson. The couple later lived at 5 Tors Street, Gainsborough. Atkinson’s son Rueben was killed in action in 1916.

Military History

David enlisted at Gainsborough under age so presumably lied to recruiting staff. His name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial,the Somme
